Indore is officially the country's cleanest city, this is mainly down to the work of the Indore Municipal Corporation, they have vehicles patrolling the city and hand out fines to those who are caught dropping litter.  Within two years they went from bring ranked 180 to number 1 out of 434 cities

Hong Kong have a campaign in place called the 'Face of Litter', which focuses on shaming litter bugs across the city.  A small sample of DNA which is then sent to a lab where it is sequenced to identify traits to create a likeness of the litterbug, the image is then put on posters across the city and online.

This weeks Global Fight Against Litter focuses on Monatana.  A health department in Montana has started using an app to record the amount of cigarette butt litter in public places, named Litterati, which started as a hashtag currently has 65,000 users in 115 countries who photograph cigarette related litter.

One of the major roles to Keep Columbus Beautiful is work with communities and partner organisations to develop litter strategies to keep the streets clean, they run a training workshop called Litter is a Crime and teachs how enforcement has been used as a deterrent, thos invited include the Police Department, Sheriff's Office and other community groups.

The state of California spend on average of half a billion dollars cleaning up litter every year, officials say the large amount of money spent on cleaning up could be better invested elsewhere like schools and public spaces.  One of the ways to combat this is the instatement of proposition 67 which banned grocery stores from using single use plastic or paper bags.

Steinbach in Canada is one of the 8 fastest growing cities in Canada, popular with people who emigrate it has been hailed the most litter free city in the region, this could be down to an annual litter audit that is conducted by the Canadian Beverage Container Recycling Association.  Since the start of the audit empty drinks container being littered has dropped by 69%.

The Maldives are the latest nation to join the UN campaign which aims to help eliminate marine litter, in today's economy we use 20 times more plastic than we did in the 1960's.  More than 8 million tonnes of plastic end up in our oceans which can cause some serious damage to marine life.

Cigarette litter is the most commonly dropped litter today, and Paris is the fight against it, if you are caught discarding any cigarette litter you can expect a €68 fine which is part of a national campaign in Paris.  Other campaigns has been launched in the past but have failed and now officials believe fines are ethe only way to combat the issue.
