There are many occasions where balloons are released in memory of someone or as part of a celebration, but with this can bring more problems to the environment, becah litter surveys alone have found a dramatic rise in litter from balloons alone. The latex can cause problems to the wildlife with it taking around 4 years to decompose if if makes its way into the ocean, and there is now backing to ban the release of balloons and lanters.
